Its name to be composed has double origin: san juan; whose name was used by the spaniards to give name to the indigenous reduction that they created in the 1570s, the second name that would derive from the existence of a prehispanic culture that would have been called ruricancho or -canchus del interior- that would have derived in the word -urigancho-; this is due to the fact that in the zone of the southern peruvian center coast; there was a quechua variety designated by the chroniclers as quechua -maritime- or coastal quechua in this quechua variety due to aymara influence (where r was pronounced as l and c as g). this ethnic group would be part of the curacazgo of the ichma. the manor of ichma was organized by small curacazgos:
